In the first round of the CPHA Horsemanship Medal Final, Samantha Chelf (Linda Cooper, trainer) was last in the ring, but clinched the first place ribbon. Samantha wowed judges, earning a combined score of 85.

Fourteen-year-old Samantha has only been riding for five years and just competed in her first medal final last year. “This is the best I’ve ever done,” she said. “I was so amazed with my score because it was the best I have ever gotten. My trainer told me earlier today that she wanted scores in the 80s or 90s, but I didn’t imagine that would really happen.”

“I was really happy! This is only my third medal final I’ve competed in,” Sam said. “Last year, I rode in this same medal final and it did not go very well, so this was a major accomplishment for me.”

Samantha’s plan worked well today, and she’s positive about tomorrow. “I tried to measure the distances and didn’t talk to people beforehand so I stayed focused,” she explained. “I wanted to stay centered throughout the turns and be in balance with my horse.”

“I’m feeling really good about tomorrow,” she said with a smile. Round two of the CPHA Horsemanship Medal Finals begins Saturday at 8am
