LEGIS May 2015 E-News

Welcome to this month’s LEGIS E-News. Our team members and clients are out in the show ring enjoying their horses, and we’ve seen some of you out there as well. We’ve also been furthering our education and working hard to bring you the best possible experience with your equine insurance needs. While we like talking about ourselves, we love bragging about you even more, so drop us a line when you have an achievement you’d like to share!

Team Tidbits

Our team members continue to be busy, in and out of the show ring and in the LEGIS office. Amanda had a great two weeks at Del Mar and then Showpark. At Del Mar, she was clean in the 1.30M Low Junior-Amateur/Owner Speed Classic, but it was a large and super fast class, and she finished a respectable 15th out of 50.

Marnye spent two weeks in Woodside showing LEGIS Rockstar, with some guidance from Kelly Van Vleck, who stepped in to coach them. They placed third in the 1.30M Low Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper the first week. The second week, they were 1.20M Modified Junior/Amateur Jumper Champion and placed fifth in the Modified Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic. Both Amanda and Marnye will be showing at Memorial Day Classic this week, so be sure to say hello.

Claire is now leasing a very adorable horse named Atticus after retiring her horse Sam to pasture in Moorpark, and we wish her the best of luck with her new partner. Speaking of retired horses, Courtney went on vacation to Red Bluff and got to ride her old retired eventing horse, Logan, around his pasture. Finally, Sarah went to New Jersey to continue her education in becoming an FEI Steward.

LEGIS Rider Bonuses

The LEGIS Rider Bonuses mean an extra bonus check at the end of the year for riders who win two or more qualifying classes at select shows. In Los Angeles, Michael Leon has won LEGIS Hunter Derby Rider Bonus checks two years in a row, and he is already on his way to a third after winning the $1,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby at Gold Coast February (Feb 13-15) aboard C Coast Z (West Coast Equine Partners LLC, owner) and another at Gold Coast April on Carrera.

The show season has started at Woodside, and riders are already vying for the $25,000 LEGIS Grand Prix Rider Bonus and the LEGIS Hunter Derby Rider Bonus. Hugh Mutch has thrown his hat in ring by winning the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby on Bunistar (Naomi Rubin, owner) during week one and Cold Smoke (Naomi Rubin, owner) during week two. Harley Brown won the $10,000 Woodside Spring Preview Grand Prix on Apex, while it was Toni McIntosh who topped the $10,000 Woodside Spring Classic Grand Prix on Lexito (P2 Capital LLC, owner). One more win for any of them, and they’ll have some extra cash at the end of the season to celebrate their successes! Finally, Collman Equestrian Productions offers the $1,500 LEGIS Hunter Rider Bonus, and there are two more shows in the season for riders to try to win a check.

Insurance Buzz: Saddles Are Expensive

If you have bought a saddle lately, you know how expensive tack and equipment can be. Make sure you have protection in case your tack is stolen or damaged. If your trainer’s tack room is broken into, do not expect that your trainer carries coverage for tack and equipment he does not own. You might have coverage through a homeowner’s policy, but check and make sure and list your items individually along with purchase amounts. If you have a commercial policy you can easily add property items—like tack—to the policy. If you are not sure whether your tack is covered, contact one of our horsemen to check for you.
